Pixel Watch 3 gets FCC certification ahead of launch

Google is set to host an event on August 13th to reveal a lineup of new products, including the Pixel 9 series, Pixel Tablet 2, and Pixel Watch 3 models. As the event approaches, the Pixel Watch 3 has been seen at the FCC, with the standard model expected to have a circular design and no bezel.

The Pixel 3 Watch will be available in four different model numbers: GBDU9, GGE4J, GG3HH, and GRY0E. The reason for four model numbers is due to the expectation of two case sizes (41mm and 45mm) and two versions with different connectivity features, resulting in four unique models.

As per the FCC documentation, the GBDU9 and GRY0E model numbers will include LTE and UWB connectivity. Both models will also be compatible with 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and NFC. The Pixel Watch 3 versions GGE4J and GG3HH will support UWB, dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and NFC, but will not have LTE capability. The GRY0E, GBDU9, and GG3HH versions will have GPS functionality. The UWB support will enable the new watches to work with Google’s Find My Device feature.

The timepiece will come in Black and various other colors, and will showcase a 1.2 AMOLED circular display without bezels. The screen will be protected by Gorilla Glass 5 and will offer a brightness of 1,000 nits. The Pixel Watch 3 XL will feature a larger 1.45-inch AMOLED display.

Rumors suggest that the Pixel Watch 3 will feature a 306mAh battery, enabling the device to operate for a full day on a single charge, even with the always-on display activated. Previous experiences indicate that the battery could reach a 50% charge within 30 minutes and hit 80% within 45 minutes.

It is highly probable that the Pixel Watch 3 and Pixel Watch 3 XL will come with Wear OS 5 already installed, potentially resulting in longer battery life due to the latter’s larger battery. The Wear OS 5 is built on Android 14 and Google is expected to adopt an annual update schedule similar to that of Android smartphones. Both the Google Watch 3 and Watch 3 XL may include improved health and fitness functionalities.

The Pixel 3 may be priced at $349 for the Wi-Fi only version and $399 for the model that includes both Wi-Fi and LTE connectivity.
