As tradition dictates, the Pixel 9 line is being leaked many months before its official unveiling. Once again, benchmark tests are revealing details about the upcoming Pixel 9. Unfortunately, the news is not favorable for Google’s 2024 handset.
The most recent discoveries regarding the Pixel 9 and its Tensor G4 chipset suggest that it may be comparable to, or even inferior to, the Tensor G3 found in the Pixel 8 series. These claims are based on the Pixel 9’s alleged appearance in the Geekbench benchmark database, which is a repository of performance test results for a variety of devices, such as smartphones, that assess and compare their processing capabilities through standardized tests.
The Pixel 9 has appeared in an 8GB RAM version, with a single-core test score of 1653 points and a multi-core score of 3313 points according to the entry.
To say the least, it’s eyebrow-raising that the current Pixel 8 with the Tensor G3 reportedly achieves higher Geekbench scores: 1711 for single-core and 4382 for multi-core.
Naturally, since the Pixel 9 is still several months away, the Geekbench entry mentioned above could potentially be a hoax. However, it is also possible that it is legitimate.
This implies that Google still has plenty of time to refine the Pixel 9 and improve its performance.
If the Tensor G4 proves to be unsatisfactory, a lot of users will opt to continue using their Tensor G3 or even their G2s, and hold out for the release of the Tensor G5.
This is because Google will be fully customizing the Tensor G5 for the 2025 Pixel 10 series. Rather than relying on Samsung Foundry to manufacture the 4nm chipset, TSMC will be producing the Tensor G5 using their second-generation 3nm process node.
The previous benchmark testings
Just a few hours ago, the Pixel 9 XL was seen on the Geekbench database, scoring 1378 points in the single-core test and 3732 in the multi-core test. It is important to note that these results should be taken with caution as the testing process is not transparent and the scores are not particularly impressive.
In early June, AnTuTu benchmark tests revealed that the Pixel 9 scored 1071616 points, the Pixel 9 Pro scored 1148452, and the Pixel 9 Pro XL had the highest score of 1176410 among the three upcoming Pixel models. These scores are compared to around 900000 for the Pixel 8 and 1142984 for the Pixel 8 Pro.
