OnePlus’ community forums have been full of scary stories lately, with people talking about faulty motherboards and virtually non-functional phones, including flagship models like the OnePlus 10 Pro and OnePlus 9:
In 2022, the OnePlus 10 Pro showcased attractive features such as 4K120 and 8K video recording; however, its camera performance and stabilization fell short compared to its rivals.
The phone delivers impressive speed, featuring smooth animations and gestures, while the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 enhances performance, particularly for gaming.
My 10 Pro suddenly crashed. I wasn’t using the phone, it wasn’t charging (it had been fully charged a few hours earlier), and it wasn’t undergoing any updates (it had been updated to the latest version several days ago). It was simply lying in an air-conditioned room, and then, out of nowhere, it wouldn’t turn on.
The motherboard was replaced within three days, but during the process, they damaged my display and fingerprint sensor. I took it back, and they replaced the display and repaired the fingerprint sensor. However, the quality of the repairs is very poor. They didn’t properly seal the entire back with glue, causing the panel to become slightly loose and no longer water-tight. Additionally, they applied too much glue on the camera panel, resulting in excess glue oozing out, which looks unattractive.
Another unsettling experience comes from user Rahul G21, a dedicated OnePlus enthusiast who has owned at least four OnePlus devices before acquiring the OnePlus 10 Pro. In December 2022, he bought a OnePlus 10 Pro and was initially satisfied with its performance.
However, as time passed, the phone started to lag, although tweaking app settings and managing background activities provided temporary relief. Additionally, the device faced overheating issues, which he managed by improving his app management and charging habits.
In August 2024, my phone unexpectedly shut down one afternoon, resulting in a black screen that was unresponsive. I attempted various solutions: performing hard resets, holding the power button for 10 to 20 seconds, pressing the power button in combination with the volume up or down buttons, and even trying a battery cycle method—leaving the phone idle for 12 to 18 hours before charging it for another 12 hours. Unfortunately, none of these efforts worked, and the screen stayed black, rendering the phone essentially useless.
