Samsung’s highly anticipated “special” foldable is nearing its official announcement, and after numerous rumors centered mainly on its branding and potential differentiators from the current Galaxy Z Fold 6, a new report provides insight into what the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition may look like.
As expected, the first leaked product render from the typically reliable Android Headlines shows a design strikingly similar to that of the Z Fold 6. This similarity arises because Samsung cannot suddenly overhaul its design approach and create a book-style foldable that is entirely unique. However, there are a few noteworthy differences to highlight, which we will explore in the following paragraphs.
More than simply a slimmer design.
For several months, there have been rumors that Samsung’s “bonus” foldable device for this year would be named the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim. However, it is now widely anticipated to be marketed as the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition.
The phone’s primary selling feature is expected to remain unchanged. If you take a closer look at the recently leaked image, you’ll likely notice that its profile appears significantly slimmer compared to the standard Galaxy Z Fold 6.
According to reliable insider information from Evan Blass, the Z Fold Special Edition will have a depth of 4.9mm when unfolded and 10.6mm when folded, a reduction from the Z Fold 6’s measurements of 5.6mm and 12.1mm, respectively. This change is expected to greatly enhance the maneuverability of Samsung’s flagship foldable, although it still won’t match the leading specifications of the Honor Magic V3.

Additionally, the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition is set to feature a new, sleek back panel finish and possibly a more pronounced rear camera module. While it may appear metallic at first glance, we do not anticipate the rear cover to be made of actual metal; instead, it will likely mimic such a look to differentiate itself from the glossy finish of the Z Fold 6. Meanwhile, the camera system may increase in weight and thickness to accommodate a 200MP primary sensor, compared to the 50MP main camera found on the Galaxy Z Fold 6.
What about the displays?
It’s difficult to draw conclusions from just one image (especially of this nature), but all reliable indicators suggest that the Z Fold Special Edition will feature an impressive 8-inch primary foldable display and a cover screen measuring approximately 6.5 inches.
Both dimensions represent a substantial increase from the Z Fold 6’s screen sizes of 7.6 inches and 6.3 inches, surpassing even the previously mentioned Honor Magic V3, as well as competitors like the OnePlus Open and Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold (at least regarding the secondary display).
There are currently no updates about additional enhancements compared to the Z Fold 6, but even if the other specifications remain unchanged, the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition certainly appears premium, stylish, large, and powerful enough to compete for the title of the world’s best foldable device this holiday season.
The cutting-edge 200MP camera adapted from the Galaxy S24 Ultra could be a decisive factor for many Android enthusiasts in various key global markets. However, it’s worth noting that the Z Fold Special Edition is anticipated to be launched exclusively in China and South Korea soon. The retail price is expected to align with the high-end specifications and appealing design discussed, likely exceeding $2,000, which may ultimately categorize this device as an experimental model for a very limited group of users.
