iPhone 16 Series Supports Wireless Restore

If you’ve encountered firmware problems such as boot looping or bricking on your iPhone, your final option would be to connect it to a PC or Mac via cable and restore its firmware using iTunes.

A recent report from 9to5Mac indicates that the new iPhone 16 models will have the capability to restore their software wirelessly through RecoveryOS.

This feature will enable iPhone 16s to be wirelessly restored from another iPhone or iPad that is running iOS 18 or iPadOS 18.

iPhone 16 Series Supports Wireless Restore

RecoveryOS has been available on Apple Watch and Apple TV for some time, and it’s great to see Apple finally introducing it to its most popular device – the iPhone.

According to a recent report, iPhone 16 users will be able to simply place their malfunctioning device on top of another iPhone or iPad (which is connected to Wi-Fi and Bluetooth).

This setup will then download the latest version of iOS and wirelessly transfer it to the affected iPhone.

The new iPhone 16 models are said to include a dedicated recovery partition that oversees the entire process, even if the main iOS partition fails to boot.

It remains uncertain whether RecoveryOS will require additional hardware features and if it will be available for older iPhones and iPads.
