Apple will put a stop to its hardware and software fragmentation spree with the release of the iPhone 16 series, aiming to encourage customers to purchase its pricier handsets.

All iPhone 16 models will come with an Apple A18 processor and a minimum of 8GB of RAM to support the new Apple Intelligence algorithms. Additionally, the Pro versions will distinguish themselves by offering even more advanced hardware compared to the iPhone 15 Pro models.

According to the Taiwanese publication Digitimes and its sources from Apple’s local camera supply chain, new component brands are expected to enter the market this year. In addition to Largan Precision, which supplies optics for Apple’s Tetraprism periscope lens, Genius Electronic Optical (GSEO) is also now involved in the supply chain.

The diversification of supply is evident as the Tetraprism lens will no longer be limited to the iPhone 15 Pro Max, as it was in the past year. Reports from various reliable sources suggest that Apple intends to introduce a periscope zoom lens in the smaller iPhone 16 Pro for the first time, reducing the fragmentation of its iPhone lineup and providing users with the option of choosing between a smaller or larger Pro model.

This year, the definition of “smaller” will change as the iPhone 16 Pro is anticipated to increase its display size to 6.3 inches, distinguishing it further from the standard iPhone 16 model with which it has previously shared a screen size.

The larger iPhone 16 Pro will provide additional room for the Tetraprism periscope zoom, closing the gap in specifications with the 16 Pro Max. However, Apple may have other reasons for making this decision.

Users have been gravitating towards the Max version of the iPhone franchise due to the fragmentation that has left cheaper iPhones lacking in specs. This has made the Max version the primary sales driver, prompting Apple to consider distributing demand among a wider range of its most expensive iPhones.

Apple may succeed in its sales tactics once more, as the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus are expected to have 60Hz displays, while the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max will feature Tetraprism zoom lens.
